Great Falls
Great Falls did not officially gain its name, inspired by the beautiful falls of the Potomac River, which this community overlooks, until 1955. Additionally, Great Falls is neither a city nor a town but a Census Designated Place (CDP). As of 2020, the population is 58,627. The area has no condos or townhomes but many large, single-family homes instead. Between the proximity to Washington, DC, stunning homes, picturesque landscapes, and proximity to nature, Great Falls has it all!
One of the most well-known and well-loved attractions in Great Falls is, The Great Falls National Park. Located along the Potomac River, Great Falls Park offers stunning views of cascading waterfalls and picturesque landscapes. The area is a haven for nature enthusiasts, with opportunities for hiking, biking, picnicking, and exploring the outdoors. Throughout the year, over 150 different species of birds can be seen at Great Falls Park!
Great Falls is primarily a residential area. However, its convenient location means you'll never have to worry about access to amenities. In Great Falls, The Village Center has small shops (like Unique Kitchens and Baths, Vivid Chill, The Arts of Great Falls, Adeler Jewelers, etc.), restaurants (The Old Brogue Irish Pub, Pio Pio Peruvian Cuisine, Katie's Coffee House, Finn Thai, and Great Falls Creamery), and services (Harlow's Organic Hair Salon, River Nails, and Spa, American Health Care Professionals, Great Falls Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, The School of Theatrical Dance, etc.) for all your daily needs. Nearby commercial centers like Tysons Corner and Reston Town Center provide abundant shopping, dining, and entertainment options.
Northern Virginia is known for great schools. All of the public schools in Great Falls are operated by Fairfax County Public Schools. You can explore the zoned schools for each home you are considering using their helpful Boundary Finder Tool. I recommend carefully researching area schools before making a home purchase since where you live will have a big impact on the type of education your children will receive.
